Fall 2025 Events and Shows

Upcoming & Current Exhibitions

  • FAIRY TALES EXHIBITION– A Step Above Gallery (Timm’s Community Centre – 20399 Douglas Crescent, Langley, BC).
Gallery is located on the second floor, near the elevator.

Exhibition runs October 24 to December 5, 2025

Pam writes:
“I am thrilled to announce that I was juried into the Exhibition, Fairy Tales, through Langley City.  I had sent the invitation and exhibition details out to Port Kells Art Club Members in September and thought I would participate. This venue was entirely out of my comfort zone.  Thinking of a fairy tale theme really got my imagination rolling.  Below is an image of the painting I submitted.”

  • CONNECTIONS WITH PEOPLE AND NATURE EXHIBITION – Passagio Gallery in Maple Ridge (11944 Haney Place, Maple Ridge, BC).
Six PKAC members will be taking part in this exhibition.

Exhibition dates: November 6 – December 6, 2025

* Act Arts Centre Installation “Connections with People and Nature” exhibition.

The Port Kells Art Club is participating in its last outside venue for this year through the ACT Arts Centre in Maple Ridge (Passagio Gallery, 11944 Haney Place, Maple Ridge BC V2X 6G1).

We started with a clean canvas of walls. With the aide of Courtney Miller ( ACT Art Coordinator) and Carol Hunter, we were able to transform the bland walls with wonderful art works created by Gail Aitchison, Carol Hunter, Bonita Jackson, Marlene Serdult, Linda Tyler and myself (Pam Orth).  The trick was to get all the paintings to blend so there was no clash of colour and design when put in place beside one another.

Though the hanging session took approximately 1 1/2  hours, the results were well worth the effort.  With the amount of paintings we had, we were also able to hang five in the conference room.

If you are in the Maple Ridge area be sure to stop in.  To view the PKAC Exhibition, Connections With People and Nature, make your way upstairs to the Passagio Gallery in the ACT building.

The exhibition will be on display from November 6th to December 6th 2025.

PKAC at the Langley Airport Air Fair

  • September 13, 2025

Lulu Zhou was PKAC’s representative at the Air Fair on September 13th. She reports:

The Air Fair was very well attended with many visitors. There were kids’ castles, food trucks, the air museum, tents, and certainly airplanes set up all around.

I did a watercolor painting, though the main plane is not painted correctly as I have no experience with this. I gave it to Kelly.

It was a good challenge for me. I could be better next time. Here are some photos to record the day.

The Township 7 Winery’s Art in the Vines Artisan Market
 – August 24, 2025

Once again the Port Kells Art Club participated in the Township 7 Winery’s Art in the Vines Artisan Market. Members of the Port Kells Art Club involved were Carol Hunter, me (Pamela Orth), and Sandra Cattermole.

Carol, Pam & Sandra

We were very fortunate to have the spot that we had.  It was so nice and cool with a continual breeze coming through. Other vendors unfortunately did not fare so well.

Before the event opened a vendor had a heart attack.  Luckily, Carol happened to be talking to the fellow at the time. Her nursing background kicked in and she started CPR. Soon a lady from the next booth, who happened to be a firefighter, came to assist her. The two of them continued resuscitating until the Township 7 Winery staff came on the scene with a defibrillator, which got the fellow’s heart going.  It didn’t take long for the ambulance to come and take him away.  That was our morning excitement.

Once the gates opened for the public and people were pouring in, we were out of our seats and representing the PKAC to whoever stepped into our tent.

Every so often one or two of us would leave our booth to go look at the handmade products the other vendors had for sale.  We also had to write down names and body parts for a draw that the Osteoporosis Foundation was putting on.  Each booth would get a number and a slip with the name of a body part (bone) or a product (dairy) that is to do with osteoporosis. Every vendor had to write down all the names from each booth and put it in the draw for a huge basket made up of wine and goodies.  We didn’t win the draw, but it was a fun activity to do.

As the day grew increasingly hotter people made a beeline for our tent to keep cool.  I snagged one of them who bought one of my paintings.  Sandra gave another person information about the club and handed out our last PKAC business card.

By closing time, we were beat.  Carol was using a wet scarf to cool her down and Sandra and I were misting ourselves.  We victoriously represented the PKAC and had a blast.

PKAC at Arts Alive – August 16, 2025

Our day for representing the PKAC started off with rain and a river of water running through our two tents, but the weather was mild. Sandra Cattermole, Lulu Zhou, Koreen Dyke and I (Pam Orth) persevered despite the elements and had the paintings hung and the tables displayed by 10:00 am.

By 11:00 am the clouds began to disperse as people left the restaurants and stores to see what the vendors had for sale. By 1:00 pm, the foot traffic was steady. The sun was shining, and it was getting hot. Sandra had to change her shoes to cool down and Lulu and Koreen tried to stay cool in the corner of one of the tents.

We had quite a few people interested in joining the PKAC and handed out many cards. There were only nine business cards left by the end of the day.

As we were sitting in the booths, an Arts Alive representative came along and gave us $45.00 (start the car!!) for staying though the rain. We were all thrilled!

Having experienced the rainy weather this year, we will be prepared for whatever weather the Arts Alive has next year when we participate.

Monday Plein Air Paint Sessions – 2025

June 30, 2025

Artists met and made art on Rosemary Genberg’s property on Monday, June 30th. Thanks so much, Rosemary, for your hospitality and providing the photos!

June 9, 2025
About a dozen artists gathered at the Derek Doubleday Arboretum from 10 a.m. to noon to sketch and paint the beauty, On this sunny day shaded picnic tables saw the most action. Here are a few memories of the day.

Spring Potluck – June 2, 2025

Fifteen well-fed PKAC members gather for a group photo after a wonderful potluck lunch. Also in attendance were Rosemary Genberg (who took the photo) and Doug M.

It was a beautiful day for our Port Kells Art Club Potluck.  We had 17 members who gathered at the Eric Bysouth Field House in Langley.

There was a wide selection of salads, hors d’oeuvres, savoury meat dishes, and rich, fattening desserts.  I think, next year, we should have a prize for the best entrée and dessert dishes.  Everything was scrumptious.  Thanks to Glenda McDonald and Doug McSavaney for bringing coffee and tea.  It was such a treat to have with our meal.

There were eight, $20.00 gift certificates to be drawn.  Four from Michael’a and four from Opus.  Excited members, who had the winning tickets, did not leave empty handed.  We also gave a $50.00 gift certificate (for, Willowbrook Frames in Willowbrook Shopping Centre) to Loraine Dickson for her role as Communications Facilitator.  Her years of dedication to the PKAC could not go unnoticed. The gift certificate was a way to show her our appreciation.

The food bank drive went well last year, so we thought we would have members bring a non-perishable food item to the potluck again this year.  We are thrilled to see that the boxes were filled by the end of the event and ready for Sandra Cattermole to take to the Surrey Food Bank.  Due to popular demand, the PKAC will continue to donate to the Food Bank at future potluck events.

The photo you see above was taken by Rosemary Genberg.  That is why she is missing (along with Doug M. who is also not in the photo).

There were quite a few members missing due to health reasons. The photo has been sent out to all those who couldn’t make it to send them some sunshine and let them know we are thinking of them.

Though this potluck is the last for this season, remember that you can still hook up with your fellow PKAC Members at the plein air meetups and the Thursday Paint Drop-ins at St, Oswalds Church.

There will also be shows and events throughout the summer that PKAC members will be participating in.  I will advertise these events, through Loraine and Violet, our PKAC Website Builder.  We ask members (old and new) to come out and see those who are involved in these events.  Your support would be welcomed with open arms.

To those who missed the June Potluck don’t worry, our Fall Potluck will be coming soon. To be Continued.

Happy Summer Everyone!

Pam

PKAC Winter Potluck

On Monday, December 2nd,we had another enjoyable potluck with lots of tasty dishes to tempt our appetites. Maybe we should have prizes for the best entrée. There are some pretty good cooks in our club!

As we ate Rosemary Genberg told us some stories that got everyone laughing.

We also handed out door prizes from Opus and Michaels. There were eight in all. Winners received $40 or $20 gift cards from these establishments.

The boxes for the Food Bank did not take long to bulge at the sides with the nonperishable food items members brought. These items will be sent to the food bank this Thursday (December 5) by Sandra Cattermole.

All in all we had a nice gathering.

Thank you for the food bank donation.

And now, all of us at the Port Kells Art Club wish you a very Merry Christmas!

Township 7 – Art in the Vines Artisan Market

Sunday, June 23 – 11 AM – 5 PM
Township 7 Winery
21152 – 16th Ave., (at 212th St.)
Langley, BC

Four of our artists (Pam, Carolyn, Bonita, and Marlene) will have a PKAC booth at this event. All are welcome to attend!

Pam reports:

It was a great day for the artisan market.  Marlene, Carolyn, Bonnie and myself started the morning finding out that the Township 7 Winery lent us another tent.  It was already up and all we had to do was place ours in front of theirs.

We were able to display all of our works  People were able to enter and view the paintings without bumping into to one another.  It was wonderful!!!

We did sell some cards and Bonnie sold a painting for four mystery novels.  We each had a glass of wine and took in the crafts that the other venders had for sale.

There were 29 booths all together.  Each varied from selling Chocolates to soaps to knitted items to flower bouquets.  Our booth was the only one with paintings for sale.  I handed out a few PKAC business cards to a few interested individuals.  Might get some new members.  All and all , at the end of the day, when asked if we would do this venue again, we all said, “Yes”!!!

Thanks for representing PKAC at the Art In the Vines Artisan Market – Pam, Carolyn, Marlene & Bonnie!

PKAC Paints Plein Air

We had lovely weather, cool but sunny, for our first plein air painting session Wednesday, June 5th.

Thanks so much to Rosemary, who welcomed nine of us to her property and invited us to explore the buildings, forests, and romantic corners with pencil, pen, charcoal, and paint. Rosemary also led us on a tour through her home and told the stories behind the many treasures she has collected on her rural property.

Thanks again, Rosemary, for hosting this fun day!
